Arathi Gowda, Sustainable Architect with ZGF Architects in Washington, D.C., shares how she transformed from what she describes as "an evolution of an introvert" into a leader in sustainable design. Arathi reminds students that "an architect does not build a building by themselves," because successful projects require collaboration among engineers, communities, and designers. She emphasizes that buildings should be judged by whether people walk into them and simply say, "Hey, this is a cool space," and she notes that if users do not enjoy a building, "we totally failed." Throughout her presentation, she demonstrates how architects think about sunlight, wind, water, materials, and human well-being while designing spaces that people want to preserve and protect.
